Elder abuse in Saudi Arabia: A systematic review

Background: Elder abuse is a common global problem that certainly preventable. The first step to tackling elder by researching its prevalence and acknowledging it as prevailing problem. However, there lack of studies on in Saudi Arabia. In this review, the socio-forensic Arabia addressed. Methods: PubMed database was systematically searched for articles from inception 1 July 2022. Search terms included “elder abuse”, “elderly “geriatric “aged “senior maltreatment”. addition, detect reported Arabia, following search were included: “Saudi Arabia”, “KSA”, “Kingdom Arabia”. results screened relevant articles. Studies addressed review. other countries age groups excluded. Results: A very high percentage elderly shelter homes found have experienced abuse, especially psychological, which resulted an array mental health implications such anxiety, depression, sleep disorders. level awareness addition sense responsibility towards elderly, reported. Conclusions: As represent significant population with community being heavily family-centered, recommended increase dedicated efforts nationwide research formulate effective national programs ensure prevention Arabia.
